Families & Health SIG Webinar: From Awareness to Action: Behavioral Strategies to Address HIV Stigma
July 29, 2025 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm EDT
The Families and Health SIG General Body Meetings allow for collaboration in scholarship, education/training, practice, and policy for interdisciplinary professionals interested in promoting a family-centered approach in healthcare. Our General Body Meetings offer webinars and community engagement opportunities among professionals in the field.
This session will begin with a concise overview of HIV epidemiology, transmission facts, and the origins of stigma, setting the stage for understanding its impact on patient care and the family system. Participants will then explore multiple behavioral communication techniques and actionable strategies to dismantle stigmatizing attitudes and foster more empathetic, supportive interactions in both clinical and community settings, including within the family.
Speaker: Kento Sonoda, MD, AAHIVS
