DON BLOCH AWARD

Barry Jacobs, PsyD



Barry J. Jacobs, Psy.D. is a clinical psychologist, family therapist and the co-author (with his wife, Julia Mayer, Psy.D.) of the book, AARP Meditations for Caregivers—Practical, Emotional, and Spiritual Support for You and Your Family​ (Da Capo Press, July 2016). He is also the author of The Emotional Guide for Caregivers (Guiford, 2006).  As a clinician, he specializes in helping families cope with serious and chronic medical illnesses.  As an educator, he works as the Director of Behavioral Sciences for the Crozer-Keystone Family Medicine Residency Program in Springfield, PA and has had adjunct faculty positions with the Temple University School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing and the Department of Psychology of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine.  He is the national spokesperson on family caregiving for the American Heart Association and a member of the AARP Caregiving Advisory Panel.  He was a member of the American Psychological Association Presidential Task Force on Caregiving that produced the Caregiver Briefcase website. Dr. Jacobs received his bachelor's degree from Brown University and his doctorate in clinical psychology from Hahnemann/Widener Universities. He lives with his wife and two children in Swarthmore, PA.

The East Carolina University Medical Family Therapy doctoral program is designed to promote the field of Medical Family Therapy by training emerging leaders in theory, research, and policy in MedFT. Our doctoral students conduct research, teach, and supervise from a relational and systemic perspective through the incorporation of a biopsychosocial-spiritual approach. Our aim is to widen the knowledge base in healthcare to include biomedical, psychosocial, and family data in the collaborative education, treatment, research, and theoretical understanding of medical and mental health issues.


OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO
THE PCBH MODEL AWARD

 Jeff Reiter, PhD


 

Jeff Reiter, PhD, ABPP, is co-author (with Patricia Robinson, PhD) of a leading book on primary care integration, “Behavioral Consultation and Primary Care: A Guide to Integrating Services”. The 2ndedition was released in 2015.   He is currently the Lead Psychologist for Swedish Medical Group, in Seattle, where he is helping roll out a new primary care behavioral health service. Previously, he led the Behavioral Health Consultation service for HealthPoint, the largest community health organization in King County (Seattle). HealthPoint hired Dr. Reiter to help develop a new integrated care service in 2002, and he led that service until 2015. Dr. Reiter is also a consulting associate at Mountainview Consulting Group, Inc. For their work in integrated primary care, he and Mountainview were awarded an “APA Presidential Award for Innovative Practice” in 2009. Dr. Reiter is also on the faculty of the DBH program at Arizona State University, a new degree program that trains mid-career mental health professionals to work in primary care. Dr. Reiter holds an ABPP in behavioral psychology and is interested in integrated primary care, prevention, novel healthcare delivery approaches, and medically underserved populations. Before working in primary care, he spent 8 years as an active-duty psychologist in the U.S. Air Force. He received his PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Vermont.

Jeffrey D. Shahidullah, PhD

 

Jeffrey D. Shahidullah, PhD is an assistant professor at Rutgers University within the Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology. His teaching, research, and clinical work focuses specifically on advancing the collaborative care field. He is currently PI of a multi-site study which aims to train pediatric residents in primary care behavioral health service delivery using innovative curricula.

PROFESSIONAL AWARD

 

Eboni Winford, PhD 


 

Eboni Winford, Ph.D. is a Behavioral Health Consultant and licensed psychologist at Cherokee Health Systems in Knoxville, TN. Dr. Winford is involved in workforce development and is a member of the training committee of CHS’s APA-accredited clinical psychology internship and the APPIC-approved postdoctoral fellowship program. She supervises trainees at multiple levels including postdoctoral fellows, clinical psychology interns, and graduate-level psychology practicum students and also routinely presents didactics across a broad array of clinical topics. Additionally, she consults with other primary care organizations as they seek to integrate their practices. She is currently involved in multiple integrated care initiatives including the refugee medical screening process and the National Institute of Medicine’s Precision Medicine Initiative. She has served as co-secretary to CFHA’s Primary Care Behavioral Health Special Interest Group and as a member of the Early Career Professionals Task Force. Dr. Winford earned her degree in Clinical Health Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
