Navel gazing (ney-vuhl-gey-zing] –noun, slang. 1. Excessive absorption in self-analysis or focus on a single issue. 2. An activity conducted by a group that is overly interested in itself, such as a movie about Hollywood or a TV show about TV writers.
I suppose a blog post about a blog would constitute navel gazing, but I hope you’ll indulge me on CBC’s 1st month anniversary. As a family therapist I can easily justify this endeavor by reframing it as “going meta” to the system (tip of the hat to Mr. Bateson).

The one area I’d like to see change is an increase in comments from readership. We know that lots of people read the blog, but a much smaller group of us are adding our 2¢ (gratefully, Ben Miller is up to about $2 by now). I believe that the log-in function has contributed to this problem. We’ve looked into this and for the time being, it would be too expensive to remove the log-in. As a work-around, we’ve created a guest log-in (username: “visitor”, password: “visitor”). Please feel free to use it.
Please provide insights regarding how to improve the blog. What do you like best? What do you like least?
Thanks for blogging with us, and I promise not to engage in overt omphaloskepsis again until baby blog’s 1st birthday.
